Grade 1a Homework
Homework updated Daily at 6:00PM
Read Well: Please have your child read their Read Well homework until they have mastered it. Mastery means reading fluently with no errors. Read to and with your child for an additional 15 minutes daily, seven days a week. This can be a combination of the small phonics booklets from class, past decoding folders, books from your child's home library, library books, fiction and non-fiction from the school and public libraries, phonics level books from the school or public libraries, the newspaper, including comics and sports columns and other environmental print i.e. cereal boxes
Help your child learn to spell the words printed in their spelling book, which is kept inside the homework folder. New words will be added at the beginning of each unit. A spelling test will be given in class at the end of each unit. We are now working with Word Families and we have added 5 words each week from a Word Family. The booklet will come home and the words for the spelling test 6-10 will be taken from this booklet.
Review page four(4) of each Read Well Decoding folder when the completed unit comes home.
Remember, the Read Well folder 'lives' in your child's backpack. That way, it will always be returned to school.
In January and February, we are working to master addition facts to 20. You will be helping your child connect these facts to their life outside school, by giving them daily oral problems to solve, which need them to use addition. i.e. You have laid the table for 4 people. Thank you. We are having 5 more people for our meal. How many place settings do you need to put on the table altogether?
Mass journals should be returned each Monday.
